Official: Chelsea complete first signing of Liam Rosenior era with left back arriving

Monday morning, with a big week ahead. Chelsea face Napoli in midweek then West Ham at the weekend.

But before we get into all that, there are other things to worry about. Chelsea have just completed a transfer, for one.

The Blues have just announced on their website that they’ve completed the signing of Yisa Alao from Sheffield Wednesday. The 17 year old left back has agreed a 2 year deal (the longest he can agree to before his 18th birthday) and will cost the Blues £500k, with that sum potentially doubling.

The Athletic claim that we battled Manchester United for Alao’s signature. That’s impressive work for a player with just 186 minutes under his belt in the senior game.

He’s been a regular in the Championship side’s first team squads, and made his debut on the pitch in the Carabao Cup back in August as a sub. Since then he’s seen his cameos continue, and if he were to stay put could expect to play a fair bit more this season.

The question will now be whether the talented teen heads out on loan to continue playing senior football, or if he drops back down and plays for our Under-18s or Under-21s.

Our guess is the latter, to get him adapted to Cobham, with a loan then coming in the summer or in 12 months time.

In other news…

One major issue under Rosenior so far has been set pieces – and there’s no sign yet that that will change. All 5 of our goals conceded under the new coach so far have been set piece adjacent.

Chelsea fans sang the praises of Liam Rosenior after the win yesterday, and that’s a very positive sign. The manager was asked about that after the game.
