Patrick Viera Names The Two Arsenal Stars Who Need To Step Up After Man United Defeat

Patrick Viera has said that two Arsenal players need to improve if they are to win the Premier League title.

The Gunners suffered a massive blow over the weekend, as they lost 3-2 to rivals Man United, who have now climbed up into the top four. It means that Arsenal’s gap to Man City has reduced to just four points, and they’re now looking over their shoulder.

Despite scoring twice, it was a lacklustre performance from Mikel Arteta‘s side on Sunday afternoon, in what was their first defeat at the Emirates all season.

The Arsenal boss will hope they can bounce back in their next Premier League game, which comes against Leeds United at Elland Road next weekend.

Viera says Saka and Trossard need to improve

Appearing on Sky Sports‘ coverage of the Arsenal vs United game, former Gunners legend Patrick Viera criticised the Gunners mental strength, and called out both Bukayo Saka, and Leandro Trossard, saying the pair need to improve.

He said: “They are still four points clear, but there are still questions about the mental strength of the team. It’s not just that they lost the game, it’s the way they lost the game. (Bukayo) Saka and (Leandro) Trossard didn’t produce enough to worry United.

“They need a leader to lift the spirit of the team. They need to understand when they are on the pitch they have to play with more energy and more risks. They have the quality. They didn’t play with the freedom to express themselves. It was a must-win game. They needed to send a message to the rest of the teams in the league.”

The result on Sunday has led many to question whether Arsenal will be able to win a league title under Arteta, or if the ghosts of the past three second place finishes in the Premier League will lure their ugly heads again come May time.
