Liverpool could well be in with a shout of replacing Arne Slot in the coming weeks, according to reports - with former player and recently sacked Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso thought to be 'more than happy' to return to the club.
The report by Sky Sports News' Alan Irwin states that, with Liverpool's poor form taking a hold, Alonso's name is 'constantly' mentioned on Merseyside.
And that could see the Spaniard take the reins at Anfield if Arne Slot is unable to turn their poor form around.
Irwin said: "Xabi Alonso's name is constantly mentioned in these parts and sources close to him indicate he would be more than happy with a return to the club."
Alonso joined Liverpool 22 years ago from Real Sociedad, becoming one of Rafa Benitez's first signings, and played a huge part I their infamous 'Istanbul' Champions League win in 2005, before departing for Real Madrid as a player in 2009.
