The Philadelphia 76ers have a new player. As expected, they are bringing on Charles Bassey.
According to the team’s press release, Bassey is joining the roster on a 10-day deal. The plans for the move were initially announced late last week.
While the Sixers were reportedly hoping to have Bassey in the mix for their Monday afternoon action on the road against the Charlotte Hornets, the injury report lists Bassey as out. That could change, depending on his travels.
Bassey landing with the Sixers is a reunion. Back in 2021, Bassey entered the NBA as the 53rd overall pick. He was one of two second-round picks for the 76ers.
During his rookie season, Bassey appeared in 23 games for the Sixers. He averaged just 7.3 minutes on the court during those games. The rookie center produced 3.0 points and 2.7 rebounds per game.
While Bassey hoped to have a bigger role with the Sixers for his sophomore effort, the team cut ties with him after the preseason. He was picked up by the San Antonio Spurs on a two-way contract. Bassey ended up having a three-year run with the Spurs. While he showed plenty of promise, injuries affected his progress throughout that time.
During the 2024-2025 NBA season, Bassey appeared in 36 games for the Spurs. That remains his career-high in one season. With the Spurs that year, Bassey averaged 4.4 points and 4.2 rebounds per game, while making 58 percent of his shots from the field.
Back in October, Bassey signed with the Memphis Grizzlies on a 10-day deal. The veteran center made two appearances on the court, producing 3.5 points and 7.5 rebounds.
With the Grizzlies moving on from Bassey following the expiration of his deal, Bassey has been spending time with the Golden State Warriors’ NBA G League affiliate, the Santa Cruz Warriors. He will now get another opportunity to showcase himself with the 76ers.
