"It's true..."- Director confirms talks are taking place with"really good"Liverpool player

Liverpool left-back Kostas Tsimikas is in “talks” over a return to Anfield from his loan spell at Roma, according to Giallorossi director Ricky Massara.

The Greek departed for Roma last summer, following the arrival of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth, with a lack of playing time almost certain to come his way.

Tsimikas has struggled to feature regularly in Serie A this season, however, making only 11 appearances in the competition and starting just four times.

Now, according to Roma director Massara [via journalist Fabrizio Romano on X], the 29-year-old could now come back from his loan stint early, having not become a key man in Italy:

“AS Roma have already agreed to let Kostas Tsimikas leave the club and return to Liverpool next week.

“‘It’s true, we are in talks with LFCabout that’, says director Ricky Massara.'”

Does it make sense for Liverpool to bring Tsimikas back?

When Andy Robertson was in talks with Tottenham over a move there last week, there seemed to be some sense in Liverpool bringing Tsimikas back, given the lack of left-back options without both of them around.

But Robertson now appears to be staying put, so the Greece international would be returning to the same situation he faced in the summer, being the Reds’ third-choice left-back.

That’s not to say that another option there would be a bad thing, with Jurgen Klopp speaking highly of him during their time working together back in 2023:

“Kosty needed obviously rhythm as well, it wasn’t that he was now flying since he came into the team. But he knows that himself, and it’s very important for a player who was waiting that long for a run of games. If you think just because you have the run of games now it will work…no, it’s not like this. But he improved now, the last two games were really good.”

But for Tsimikas’ benefit, staying at Roma or joining another club on loan until the summer, prior to leaving Liverpool permanently, makes the most sense.

He will depart as a popular figure at Anfield, possessing lots of personality and scoring the winning penalty in the 2022 FA Cup final shootout win over Chelsea.
