Joel Embiid, Paul George Downgraded for 76ers-Hornets Matchup

On Monday afternoon, the Philadelphia 76ers are set to pay a visit to the Spectrum Center for a match against the Charlotte Hornets. Philadelphia will go into the match looking to bounce back from a narrow 109-112 loss to the New York Knicks over the weekend.

In that affair, Nick Nurse looked towards his usual sources of offensive inspiration, as Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid led the way, combining for 60 points. However, this wouldn’t be enough to stop the Knicks from walking away with the win, as Jalen Brunson went off for 31 points.

While Embiid played a large part of Philadelphia’s offense on Saturday afternoon, the same won’t be said for Monday, as he has been listed as “out” on the Sixers‘ injury report due to “left knee injury management”. At first glance, this may seem off, given that he appeared healthy on Saturday afternoon, but given that the match against the Hornets is the first of a back-to-back for the Sixers, it appears they could be saving the Cameroonian for their match against the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday night.

With how the former MVP has been performing for Philadelphia this season, putting up 25.1 points and 7.4 rebounds, it’s hard to argue with their reasoning for giving him the afternoon off. But Embiid won’t be the only big name for Philadelphia to miss out on the action against the Hornets, as Paul George is listed as “out” for the same reason, according to the injury report.

Similar to his teammate, George took to the court against New York, ending the night with nine points and six rebounds to his name. His absence against Charlotte will be George’s twentieth of the season, as he has continued to battle with his knee, which kept him out for the Sixers’ opening 12 games.

The Sixers are set to take on the Hornets on Monday afternoon, with tip-off at the Spectrum Center slated for 3:00 p.m. EST.
