Liverpool insists that Andy Robertson will not be making a move to Tottenham this January after talks between the two clubs were called off over the weekend.

However, Roma are still in the process of finding a potential replacement for loanee Kostas Tsimikas and if they succeed, there's a slim chance Spurs' interest in Robertson could be reignited before the January 2 deadline next week.

The Italian club has been in touch with Liverpool about ending Tsimikas' loan early, but this is only likely to occur after their final Europa League group stage match against Panathinaikos on Thursday. Roma's Sporting Director Ricky Massara confirmed these discussions, telling Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport: "It's true, there is a discussion with Liverpool. We'll see how the solution evolves in the coming days."

Roma have also initiated talks regarding a potential transfer for Wolves wing-back David Moller Wolfe, who has remained on the bench for his current team's last three Premier League games, reports Football London.

Wolfe has also caught the attention of Turkish heavyweights Besiktas and isn't the only player on Roma's radar.

Other targets include Atletico Madrid's Matteo Ruggeri and 19 year old Toulouse starlet Dayann Methalie.

If Roma manage to secure a deal for either of these players, it's highly likely that Tsimikas could return to Liverpool.

Spurs are understood to have reached an agreement in principle to sign Robertson following this week's concluding Champions League group stage matches. However, Liverpool have now blocked the move.

There have also been suggestions that the verbal arrangement was valued at approximately £5million including bonuses.

Robertson is not believed to be urgently seeking an exit from Liverpool this month, and there's an acknowledgement at Anfield that allowing him to leave this window makes little sense.

Milos Kerkez was withdrawn at half-time during the 3-2 loss at Bournemouth because he was "in the red zone", whilst Joe Gomez was also substituted due to injury.

Arne Slot's defensive options are severely limited and apart from potentially recalling Tsimikas, they are not anticipated to conduct any further transfer activity this month.

Robertson will become a free agent on 30 June, unless there are new developments regarding Liverpool offering him a fresh contract.

He joined the Premier League champions from Hull City in the summer of 2017 and has secured nine trophies during his nine-year stint on Merseyside.

Tottenham accelerated their pursuit of the Scotland captain following Ben Davies' fractured ankle.

The injury necessitated not one but two operations, and there's a strong possibility the Wales international has now featured in his last match for Spurs. The acquisition of young left-back Souza from Santos ensures that the Europa League champions remain well-equipped in the left-back position, with Djed Spence and Destiny Udogie already vying for a starting spot.
