Arsenal could still finalise several deals as transfer deadline day approaches. The Gunners arguably have the strongest squad in the Premier League but Mikel Arteta ’s side still have issues that could be addressed in the January window.

The Gunners hold a four-point lead at the top of the league table, despite their defeat to Manchester United, and continue to compete across four competitions. The club’s immediate attention turns to Kairat on Wednesday, with Arsenal targeting a flawless eight wins from eight in the Champions League.

While there will be plenty of attention paid to how Arteta could choose to strengthen his squad, new Marseille loanee Ethan Nwaneri has already shown how a move away from the club can be beneficial for those on the fringes of the Arsenal team. Here is a closer look at some of the latest transfer headlines surrounding the Gunners.

Julian Alvarez stance

Arsenal have been linked with an interest in Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez during the January transfer window. The former Manchester City star has scored 40 in 86 games since joining the Spanish side in 2024.

ESPN reported that the Gunners are exploring a potential summer move for Alvarez, who would cost around £87m. Arsenal already have Viktor Gyokeres, Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz at their disposal. However, Gary Lineker has argued that Alvarez would improve their frontline, while revealing that he 'knows the forward is unhappy' at his current club - hinting he could be open to a move.

“It’s probably complete b******* as most of these things are on social media but I saw they were linked with Julian Alvarez who I know is not entirely happy with life at Atletico,” Lineker said on the Rest is Football podcast. “Now that is the sort of player you know can handle the big occasion – he’s a World Cup winner for crying out loud.

“Someone like that at Arsenal would be game over. But they do need one or two of these current forwards to start scoring on a reasonably regular basis.”

Manager addresses transfer

Ajax manager Fred Grim has addressed his club's interest in Arsenal loanee Oleksandr Zinchenko. The 29-year-old secured a temporary move to Nottingham Forest in the summer but has struggled for regular minutes, making 10 appearances across all competitions.

Nottingham Forest boss Sean Dyche recently admitted that the club had held discussions about Zinchenko’s future, having fallen further down the pecking order due to Ola Aina recovering from injury. Ajax are reportedly interested in signing Zinchenko permanently, with Ajax boss Grim offering an update on the deal.

“I hope that (Zinchenko’s signing) will take shape soon,” Grim said. “At Ajax, we’re very busy strengthening our squad.

“It will have to be finalised in the coming week. In my opinion, there are still some possibilities then.”
