According to La Vanguardia, the new contract includes a 50% pay rise and will see Lopez’s €500m release clause doubled.
Deco has met with Lopez’s agent to thrash out the terms of the new deal in a bid to keep him at the club. Barca also wanted to reward the midfielder for his excellent performances.
Lopez has 10 goals and 10 assists in 25 games so far this season and has become a really important player for Hansi Flick.
He was linked with a move to Chelsea in the summer but made it clear he wasn’t interested and wanted to stay at Camp Nou.
The report adds that Lopez did ponder the move to Chelsea but Flick helped to convince him to stay by “arguing that his competitive spirit and positive energy made him a special and valuable midfielder.”
