Another disappointing Premier League result has left Liverpool with fresh questions to answer as the January transfer window enters its final week.
Arne Slot’s side suffered a 3-2 defeat at Bournemouth on Saturday – their first loss in 14 matches – conceding in stoppage time after battling back from 2-0 down and appearing set for another draw.
The Reds are yet to make a major signing this month, and concerns are growing at the back after Joe Gomez limped off in the first half at the Vitality Stadium, further limiting defensive options.
Liverpool’s current injury situation has influenced Andy Robertson’s future, with the club now poised to keep the left-back. The Reds are not in a position to consider Robertson’s sale despite Tottenham Hotspur opening preliminary talks ahead of next Monday’s transfer deadline.
Liverpool explored the possibility of recalling Kostas Tsimikas from his season-long loan at Roma to provide cover for first-choice left-back Milos Kerkez, but the Serie A side were reluctant to sanction the move. After assessing their options, Liverpool have concluded they cannot proceed with any transfer involving Robertson.
The Reds did complete the signing of teenage defender Mor Talla Ndiaye earlier this month, but the 18-year-old is yet to feature after a minor issue was discovered during his medical.
Ndiaye, who joined from Senegalese side Amitie, missed the Under-21s’ recent win over Leeds, though Liverpool Under-21s coach Rob Page has confirmed the problem is not serious and he is not expected to be sidelined for long.
“They found something on the medical, not major but just something that we need to manage,” Page told This is Anfield. “Within the next couple of weeks, we’ll be seeing him on the training ground which will be exciting. He’s definitely an exciting young prospect and really excited.
“Part of the reason I took this job was for players like that, to help develop, to help nurture, to help sort of develop them into the complete player at the end of it, so I’m looking forward to that project.”
