Here is a roundup of the top Liverpool news, gossip and transfer latest from icfootballnews featuring the likes of Yan Diomande, Nico Schlotterbeck and Andy Robertson that you may have missed today…
Borussia Dortmund and German defender Nico Schlotterbeck has issued a cryptic update on his future after links with the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Bayern Munich
Virgil Van Dijk has been one of the main reasons why Liverpool have been so defensively good over the past few years, why they have won the Champions League and Premier League titles, and is a real leader in that back-line.
However – he has not looked like the dominant defender that can handle any striker this season, and the fact that he turns 35 later this year means that Liverpool are keeping a close eye out for his immediate replacement.
Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi was the number one target for LIVERPOOL, but Manchester City made the shock decision to offer money this transfer window, rather than wait until the end of the campaign, and get the England star for £30 million.
Now that he has signed for City, TEAMtalk are now reporting that Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck are being considered as alternatives.
And amid all the speculation and rumours, Schlotterbeck has sent a cryptic message over his future – He said: “I’ve set a personal deadline for myself. I won’t say when it is. Definitely before the summer, though.”

There will be some big changes in Liverpool at the end of the season, some more players leaving, some new faces coming in, but improving that back-line should be the priority for Arne Slot.
Van Dijk is still the best defender at LIVERPOOL, probably has a few more seasons in him, so adding Schlotterbeck now to learn from the Dutchman and then take over could be a very good idea.
SLOT WANTS ROBERTSON
liverpool boss Arne Slot has opened up and revealed that he wants to keep Andy Robertson at the club, despite the many reports in the media which have claimed that a move to Tottenham could happen.
Since joining from Hull City for a bargain £8m in 2017, the Scot has been virtually undroppable, amassing 362 appearances for the Reds. However, the current campaign has painted a different picture.
The *LIVERPOOL*‘ vice-captain has rotated at left-back for the majority of the season with £40m summer signing Milos Kerkez and the Scotland captain faces the toughest competition he’s had for a place in the side since he broke into the team.
Robertson has recently publicly opened the door to a potential exit this summer, acknowledging that his lack of game time is a major factor as he approaches the end of his contract in the summer, and that opened the door for Tottenham to make a move this January.
Robertson played 45 minutes for Liverpool against Bournemouth on Saturday after he came on at half-time for Milos Kerkez as Liverpool lost 3-2 to Bournemouth, and when asked about Robertson’s future, LIVERPOOL manager Arne Slot said: “I need all my players. I always knew that another 90 minutes for Milos Kerkez against an intense Bournemouth side was not a possibility so I already knew I had to bring Robertson in.
“But I had already made one substitution, so you only have two windows left so I brought him on at half time to make sure Kerkez stays available for the rest of the season. I have to manage that. The last thing we need is another injury.”
Virgil van Dijk added: “I speak to him everyday, he’s my vice captain. Robbo is a very important member of our team and I want him to stay. Whatever happens. We’ll see.”

There are alot of people out there that agree with Robertson, there is alot to think about before deciding what he wants to do, but he wants to play that is for sure.
A move away this January for Robertson is the not the best decision, he should stay until the summer that is for sure.
DIOMANDE FEE SET
Liverpool have been warned it will take a club-record fee to sign RB Leipzig sensation Yan Diomande during the upcoming summer transfer window, as the Reds continue to be linked with the attacker.
Despite all the quality that LIVERPOOL has all over the pitch, there has been reports that the Reds have joined the chase alongside Arsenal, Man United and Tottenham in the hunt to try and sign Yan Diomande.

Diomande has established himself as one of the best young prospects in the Bundesliga since joining RB Leipzig from CD Leganes this past summer. and he 19-year-old has been one of the most productive attackers for the Bundesliga club this season, scoring seven goals and providing four assists in 16 outings in all competitions thus far
Sky Sports claim a €100m price-tag is putting the Reds and other interested clubs off making a bid this January. They would rather secure a deal in the region of €60m–70m (£52m-60.6m).
But this doesn’t seem likely after a recent statement from Oliver Mintzlaff, chairman of Red Bull’s supervisory board.
“As chairman of the supervisory board, I can confidently say he will definitely remain with us next season — even if an offer of €80m or €90m were to come in,” he told Sky Sports Germany.
IcFootballnews Says…
The money that is being talked about for Diomande is well over £80 million, he has been brilliant for the German side this season and his quality and age is why that valuation is so high.
LIVERPOOL have been lacking quality this season in both attack and defender, Arne Slot has been given the money to sign the players that he wanted, and it has not worked out.
Diomande would bring energy, hungry and a desire with him that is seemingly lacking from a number of Liverpool stars right now, so if they are to replace the likes of Mohamed Salah, who has been tipped to leave, then the Bundesliga star could be a very good option.
But he is far from the finished article and LIVERPOOL would need to be patient with the lad.
