Aston Villa's impressive run hasn't escaped the attention of Premier League supporters, with Unai Emery's squad securing another vital victory over the weekend. Their triumph at Newcastle means they've racked up a remarkable 10 victories from their last 13 league fixtures, propelling the Villans from 11th place to 3rd in the Premier League standings.

During this period, they embarked on a magnificent eight-game winning run in the league, defeating the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Bournemouth as they transformed themselves from mid-table obscurity to Champions League contenders by the beginning of the festive season.

There's now genuine belief that Villa have a realistic chance of challenging for the title following last weekend's results. Arsenal's home defeat to Man United means their advantage at the summit of the Premier League table has been slashed from seven points to just four, and whilst the top two possess a far superior goal difference to Emery's outfit, they remain within striking distance.

The chance is ripe for the picking as well, with Arsenal failing to secure victory in their last three league matches and Man City only just claiming their first win in five fixtures. Indeed, had Villa managed to overcome both Crystal Palace and Everton before their journey to St James' Park, they would be level on points with the title favourites right now.

Currently, the bookies have them as outsiders at 16/1 with William Hill, a significant improvement from their weekend odds of 40/1. This suggests that momentum is with Villa to emerge as late title challengers if they can maintain their current form.

Their next three matches are against Brentford, Bournemouth and Brighton. Having narrowly lost to Brentford 1-0 at the start of the season but then defeated the other two in reverse fixtures, there's a strong chance we could be discussing a new serious title contender by the end of February.
