Liverpool’s form has once again taken a significant dip as they are still without a Premier League win this year

Will Arne Slot be Liverpool’s manager beyond this season? That’s one of the biggest burning questions in English football right now as the reigning Premier League champions are still without a win in 2026.

The Reds’ defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday has accelerated calls from fans for Slot to be replaced. Reports have emerged re-linking Liverpool to former midfielder and manager target Xabi Alonso. One recently claimed that the club have informed Slot he will remain in charge for the rest of the season, but hinted at a change of personnel in the summer.

Liverpool’s dramatic fall from grace has been astounding and their chances of defending their league title have been buried. Is the writing now on the wall for Slot?

Damning Liverpool stats under Arne Slot this season

Fan frustration has been rising in recent weeks, with Liverpool now sixth in the Premier League table. The Reds have just 36 points on the board so far, from ten wins and six draws. They are currently a hefty 14 points adrift of leaders Arsenal and only three ahead of Sunderland in tenth place.

It’s a far cry from their form last season. This time last year, Liverpool were leading the title race with 53 points, six clear at the top of the table, and had lost just one game. They finished their title-winning season with four defeats, while they have already lost seven this time round.

Their goal difference tallies are also miles apart. As Liverpool’s confidence is clearly lacking in front of goal, they have found the back of the net 35 times this season and conceded on 32 occasions. This time last season, Liverpool were leading the goal-scoring count significantly with 54, which conceding 21.

Liverpool’s latest run has clearly deflated both the team and the fans. They are without a win in their last five league games and two of those results ended 0-0. While one stalemate was against Arsenal, the others were hugely disappointing for the supporters.

Liverpool provide Bournemouth with massive boost

After drawing to Leeds, Fulham, Arsenal and Burnley, the Reds were wounded by Bournemouth, who snagged a 3-2 win in stoppage time last time out.

A huge stinger for Liverpool was that Bournemouth’s late win was against the grain of their recent form. Prior to Saturday, the Cherries had been on a mostly miserable run since November.

Before meeting with Liverpool, Bournemouth had won just one match from a possible 13. Not only did they win, they had the Reds on the backfoot from 26 minutes in and were 2-0 up after half an hour.

The sickening stoppage time goal from the Cherries was the fifth time Liverpool have conceded late deciding goals this season. The tables have well and truly turned on the champions, who attacked the league with this exact same tactic at the start of the season.
