Liverpool last overhauled their midfield back in 2023.
We saw Jurgen Klopp and Jorg Schmadtke complete deals for multiple midfielders - including Dominik Szoboszlai, Waratu Endo, Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch.
Those deals have worked out perfectly with all five going on to become Premier League champions in 2024/25. But it looks like BIG changes could be coming to the Reds’ midfield sector.
Liverpool haven’t looked as sharp in the middle third this season - with the heavy load beginning to tell on Gravenberch, Endo and Mac Allister in particular.
Therefore new signings will be needed and it looks like Richard Hughes is going toe-to-toe with Tottenham to get a deal done for a long-term target.
Liverpool want deal for Tchouameni
Aurelien Tchouameni, 25, was a firm Liverpool target back in 2022 before he swapped Monaco for Real Madrid. The Frenchman has since established himself as a key player for the 15-time European champions.
According to a report in Fichajes however the Reds have submitted an £87m offerfor Tchouameni - matching Spurs’ interest in the same player.
It’s not going to be an easy deal to conclude for a midfield talent under contract until 2028. Tchouameni has been a vital part of Madrid’s team this season under Xabi Alonso and successor Alvaro Arbeloa.
