Houston Rockets target ahead of trade deadline revealed, per Insider

With Adams out with an ankle injury, the Rockets are contemplating adding another big man.

The Houston Rockets are planning to go even bigger again as the Feb. 5 trade deadline looms.

Houston Rockets / Schedule

According to Kelly Iko of Yahoo! Sports, the Rockets are exploring the idea of adding another frontcourt enforcer as the significant absence of Steven Adams continues.

"With Adams expected to miss a decent chunk of the season, Rockets officials are still weighing whether or not to add another big to the roster — whether via a trade prior to the Feb. 5 deadline or the ensuing buyout market afterward," Iko wrote.

Adams is currently out indefinitely after suffering a severe Grade 3 left ankle sprain. He is projected to miss a substantial amount of time and could only return by mid to late March.

Clint Capela stands as the only healthy backup center for the Rockets behind franchise star Alperen Sengun.

Considering the ACL injury inactivity of Fred VanVleet, a ball-handling guard is also being viewed as a critical need for the Rockets. While Iko confirmed Houston's interest in Jose Alvarado, he noted that the New Orleans Pelicans guard isn't at the top of their priority list.

Out of their restricted cap budget, the Rockets can only operate small moves in the market to add a center and a guard.

The Rockets are 27-16 in the West's No. 4 seed and are set to compete for a title with Kevin Durant leading the way.
