Liverpool injury news on Joe Gomez, Federico Chiesa, Alexander Isak and more.

Arne Slot cited fatigue as one of the reasons behind Liverpool’s 3-2 defeat by AFC Bournemouth.

Injuries in his squad have taken their toll. The Reds head coach opted for a smaller set-up this season and when players are unavailable, it puts a strain on those who are fit.

At Bournemouth, Slot had two goalkeepers and two teenagers among his substitutes. After the loss, he admitted that Milos Kerkez was running the risk of injury, while Jeremie Frimpong had to start again despite having had two hamstring issues this season.

Liverpool have another busy week as they welcome Qarabag to Anfield in the Champions League. A victory will ensure that the Reds book their spot in the last 16 of Europe’s elite club competition. Then Slot’s side host Premier League top-four rivals Newcastle United on Saturday.

Slot will be desperate to get some of his players back for those games - and some of the longer-term casualties to make progress in terms of their respective recoveries.

With that in mind, here’s a current look at Liverpool’s injury list and when members of the squad might be back.

Federico Chiesa - knock

The forward was pulled out of Liverpool’s squad after warming up at Marseille and did not feature against Bournemouth. Slot has not been too concerned about Chiesa’s issue so he could well be back in the frame.

Potential return: Qarabag (H), Saturday 28 January

Joe Gomez - knock

The versatile defender picked up a problem when colliding with goalkeeper Alisson Becker trying to stop Bournemouth’s first goal. Gomez appeared to sustain an impact injury rather than a muscle issue so that could mean he is back. Slot admitted after the Bournemouth game that he was unsure if Gomez would be able to train in two or three days.

Potential return: Qarabag (H), Saturday 28 January.

Alexander Isak - broken leg

The striker is still rehabbing from the cruel blow he suffered when scoring in a 2-1 win at Tottenham last month.. The £125 million British record signing is not expected to be available for at least couple more months.

Potential return: April

Conor Bradley - knee

The right-back sustained a serious knee injury in a 0-0 draw at Arsenal earlier this month and won’t play again this season.

Potential return: Pre-season

Giovanni Leoni - knee

The centre-back continues his recovery from a ruptured ACL he suffered four months ago. He has been ruled out for the rest of the campaign.

Potential return: Pre-season.

Jayden Danns - hamstring

The young striker is still on the comeback trail from a hamstring issue. Slot admitted earlier this month that Danns was not close to being available so that suggests he might still be a few weeks away as he will need to build fitness.

Potential return: February.

Stefan Bajcetic - out

The midfielder is still to make a single appearance at any level this season. Bajcetic suffered a hamstring problem on loan at Las Palmas last term and recently hit a setback in his recovery. Reports suggested that he would be back in training at the end of this month but he will need matches with the under-21s before being considered for first-team duty.

Potential return: March.
