According to Marc Stein, the Knicks see Holiday as a solid backcourt partner for Jalen Brunson and a potential path that will lead Giannis Antetokounmpo to New York.
Ahead of the Feb. 5 trade deadline, the New York Knicks are reportedly on the move in hopes of acquiring one of the league's best defenders and title-contending pieces.
Per NBA insider Marc Stein, the Knicks have explored potential trades around Jrue Holiday.
A potential Holiday deal with the Portland Trail Blazers, as indicated by Stein, is inclined to the Knicks' longstanding interest to finally land Giannis Antetokounmpo. As such, Holiday is also being viewed as an ideal backcourt partner for franchise guard Jalen Brunson.
"Another concept that keeps coming up: Rumbles that the Knicks have explored pathways to try to acquire Portland's Jrue Holiday," Stein wrote.
"There are at least two clear reasons why New York would have interest in a player who helped both Milwaukee and Boston win championships this decade: 1) The presumption that acquiring Holiday — if there's a way — would make the Knicks an even more attractive destination to Holiday's former Bucks teammate Antetokounmpo; 2) New York is believed to hold a longstanding fondness for Holiday as a potential backcourt complement to Jalen Brunson."
