Liverpool has less than a week now to get any late deals over the line in the January transfer window.
Although Arne Slot has played down the possibility of the Reds entering the market for any major signings, that approach may have changed following another disappointing weekend which saw his side drop out of the Premier League’s top four.
What’s more, the Liverpool boss has been handed yet another injury concern in defense, which could increase the need for a new center-back to arrive. According to the latest reports, the club may have its eyes on one, but it isn’t alone.

Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today.
Jeremy Jacquet (Rennes)
Liverpool is in the race for Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet, according to Fabrizio Romano, and a deal could be sanctioned this month.
Chelsea and Bayern Munich are also said to be in the running, with Rennes demanding around €70 million ($83M), although the French club only wants to let him go in the summer.
It claimed that it wants to sanction the sale this month but let the 20-year-old leave at the end of the season. This latest report comes after the Daily Mail suggested that Liverpool is keeping an eye on Jacquet "from afar".

Liverpool.com says: It's fine if Liverpool wants to line up a new defender for the summer - although in Jacquet's case, it does seem like Chelsea might be leading the way.
The club cannot let this current window end without having a center-back signed and ready to join immediately. The Reds will be taking an almighty risk if they don't bolster the back line during this final week, especially after Joe Gomez's injury at the weekend.
Adam Wharton (Crystal Palace)
Claims that Liverpool has reached an agreement with Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton have been dismissed by the Reds, according to the Liverpool Echo.
A report on social media claimed that Wharton had agreed on a move to Anfield, with a five-year contract having been negotiated. However, that has been shot down by the club, with Liverpool said to not be actively pursuing the 21-year-old.

Liverpool.com says: The Wharton claim did seem to come out of nowhere, and it would be strange for a deal like that to only come out from one source on social media without it being reported elsewhere.
Wharton will inevitably get a big move, and given the way things are going at Crystal Palace at the moment, it might be sooner than expected, but midfield shouldn't be a priority for Liverpool right now. Defense has to come first, before potentially looking at new wingers.
