Arsenal have officially announced that Sophie Harwood has put pen to paper on her first professional contract with the club and ended all speculation about her immediate future.
The 18-year-old full-back joined ARSENAL academy from Southampton in July 2024 and has gone on to become a key part of the under-21s set-up, and she has been a regular member of our matchday squads for both Barclays Women’s Super League and UEFA Champions League fixtures, gaining valuable first-team experience.
“Signing my first professional contract for Arsenal is a proud and special moment for me,” said Sophie on the club website:
“Arsenal have paved the way for women’s football for so long, and to be able to play at such a historic club means so much to me. Every time I wear the badge, I’ll give my all and wear it with pride. Arsenal is a special club with special people and supporters – I’m thrilled to have signed.”
Technical Director Jodie Taylor added: “Sophie has impressed since joining the club and has settled into our first-team environment extremely well. We’re looking forward to supporting her continued development as she takes this next step in her career.”
Director of Women’s Football Clare Wheatley said: “We’re thrilled that Sophie has put pen to paper on professional terms with Arsenal. Sophie has shown great playmaking ability and versatility in the full-back position, and with hard work and dedication,
“we believe she has high potential in the professional game.”
