Chelsea have hit a brick wall in their pursuit of Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet.
While Chelsea are very keen on signing him before the transfer window closes, Rennes have no intention of selling Jacquet this month.
Chelsea could purchase Jacquet and loan the defender straight back to his current employers, but there is little chance of him putting on a blue shirt in the current campaign.

Rennes also appear to have some interest in one of the Club World Cup winners’ players.

Axel Disasi’s name was brought up in talks between Chelsea and Rennes
According to journalist Loic Tanzi, Rennes mentioned Axel Disasi’s name in their discussions with Chelsea about Jacquet.
In a Q&A session for L’Equipe, Tanzi said: “Jacquet’s move to Chelsea has cooled down. In their discussions, Rennes had mentioned Axel Disasi, a sign that signing a defender is not out of the question.”
Disasi recently trained with the Chelsea first team, but it is still very unlikely that the centre-back will play under Liam Rosenior this term.
Is there a way back for Axel Disasi at Chelsea?
Or do the Blues just need to cut their losses? 👀

The club are still trying to offload him, while Rosenior has Trevoh Chalobah, Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile, Tosin Adarabioyo and Josh Acheampong all in his squad.
On Monday, Chelsea recalled Aaron Anselmino from his loan at Borussia Dortmund, giving Rosenior another centre-half option. Ultimately, Disasi has probably played his last game for the Conference League holders.

Axel Disasi’s other options in final days of January transfer window
Rennes are not the only club who have shown interest in Disasi, who cost Chelsea £38.8m when he signed from AS Monaco in 2023.
It is being reported that West Ham are in discussions with Chelsea to sign Disasi after being linked with the 27-year-old last summer.
Premier League rivals Leeds United are also thought to be interested in Disasi, so the Frenchman could have a few clubs to choose from before the transfer window closes.
Whether it is Leeds, West Ham or Rennes, Disasi has to join another club. The France international is too good to be playing with Chelsea’s Under-21 side. He should be starting for a Premier League outfit or another team in Europe.
