Tottenham planning to raid another Premier League club for a left-back following breakdown in talks over Liverpool star Andy Robertson.
Tottenham Hotspur have been having a busy January transfer window. They have already signed Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid this winter for £35million, while young left-back Souza has joined from Santos to bolster the Lilywhites’ defensive ranks.
Spurs have also been in talks with Liverpool over the signing of Andy Robertson since last week. Thomas Frank is understood to be actively searching for an experienced defender with leadership qualities, and Andy Robertson certainly fits that criteria. Tottenham were reportedly willing to pay a fee in the region of £3m for the Scotland skipper, who is out of contract at Anfield at the end of the season.
However, Liverpool have decided to pull the plug on Robertson’s potential move to White Hart Lane. This is because the Reds have not succeeded in bringing back Kostas Tsimikas on loan from AS Roma, resulting in them now sticking with Robertson until the season concludes. Following a breakdown in talks over the Liverpool star’s signing, Spurs have quickly switched to another player from the Premier League to reinforce their left-back options.

Tottenham eye Wolves left-back Hugo Bueno
According to an exclusive report from TEAMtalk, Tottenham are eyeing a move for Wolves left-back Hugo Bueno in a £20m deal. The Lilywhites are competing with Everton for the signing of the Spaniard, who wants to compete at the highest level with Wolves being the worst team in PL this season.
Since returning from a loan spell at Feyenoord at the end of the 2024/25 campaign, Hugo Bueno has become a regular fixture in the Wolves backline. He has been a consistent performer despite the Wanderers’ struggles. The 23-year-old has made 20 Premier League appearances so far this season, 14 of which have come as a starter.
The Spanish defender has a contract at Molineux that will run until 2028; thus, Wolves are in a comfortable position. They are unlikely to sell Bueno in this transfer window amid their relegation dogfight. The report adds the Black County outfit’s £20m valuation of the 23-year-old is for the summer if they go down to the Championship, which is very likely.

Are Spurs laying the groundwork for a summer deal?
Bueno has quietly built a reputation as one of Wolves’ most reliable performers in a forgettable season that looks destined for relegation. Still 23 and developing, the former Spain youth international is believed to be tempted by the prospect of joining a bigger club, particularly one pushing to qualify for Europe.
That makes it crystal clear as water what Spurs would need to do if they want to fight for the Wolves left-back’s signature in the summer. The capital-based club’s interest in Bueno shows they are actually laying the groundwork for a summer deal, because poaching him away from Molineux right now is difficult. Wolves do not want to lose one of their best players, and Tottenham must not overpay for him.
For now, Thomas Frank’s Spurs must focus on improving their league form and qualifying for Europe, at least if they want to stand a chance of signing Bueno from Wolves.
