Roberto Firmino received a congratulatory message from former Liverpool teammate Lucas Leiva after winning a trophy while playing in Qatar.

Firmino currently plays for Al Sadd after leaving Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli last year, and Al Sadd was crowned the UAE–Qatar Super Shield Champion after beating Shebab AlAhli on Saturday.

Firmino scored twice during the game, which was contested between the champion of the UAE Pro League (Shebab AlAhli) and the champion of the Qatar Stars League (Al Sadd) in Al Rayyan. "Well done shabab. CAMPEONES," Firmino wrote on Instagram. "Let’s go… thank you for the amazing support. Glory be to JESUS."

Former Liverpool teammate Lucas, who was a teammate of Firmino's at Liverpool for two years, responded with a series of clapping emojis.

Firmino and Lucas's old club, meanwhile, endured a disappointing weekend as Liverpool lost 3-2 to Bournemouth while also seeing its main contenders for Champions League qualification – Manchester United and Chelsea – secure victories.

The Reds have now won just five of their last 18 matches in the Premier League and find themselves in sixth place in the standings.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes that head coach Arne Slot's job could be on the line if the club fails to secure a spot in the 2026-27 Champions League.

"If you don't qualify for the Champions League, having won the league the season before and spent as much as Liverpool, I don't think you've got a leg to stand on," he said on Monday Night Football.

"The real worry I have for Liverpool in terms of qualifying for the Champions League is the three big things that stand out in the Premier League now are set-pieces, counter-attacking football and coming up against low blocks.

"Liverpool can't cope with any of them. What we're seeing is a team in the Premier League that's not suited to the Premier League.

"Once you start seeing what Manchester United and Chelsea have done in the last couple of weeks, you start seeing that Liverpool could actually finish outside the Champions League positions. I really fear for them.

"Once you start fearing Champions League qualification for next season, that's when I think we've got a completely different proposition when we're talking about the manager's job. That, for me, is completely different."
