Man City are reportedly open to selling one of their attackers, amid interest from Spurs and Villa.
Pep Guardiola has had a fantastic January transfer window. The fact that his side are embroiled in a title fight, and they were able to bring in proven Premier League players such as Marc Guehi and Antoine Semenyo, says everything about City’s backing of him in recent years.
However, City have invested a lot of money in recent seasons, and when players come into the building, players have to leave it too. Already this window, we have seen reports linking Oscar Bobb over a move to Fulham, as he is in search of more game time, especially after the Semenyo signing.
Omar Marmoush is another name who has been affected by Semenyo’s arrival. He was already behind Erling Haaland in the pecking order, but now has the former Bournemouth winger to compete with too.
Tottenham and Villa keen on Marmoush deal
Man City signed Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt last year for a fee of £65m. He has impressed when playing for City, but hasn’t had anywhere near consistent game time at the Etihad since he joined. The Egyptian has made just 11 Premier League appearances this season, scoring one goal and providing one assist.
According to Caught Offside, both Tottenham and Aston Villa are keen to sign Marmoush, as they are both targeting forwards at the moment, so have decided to turn to the Man City star, who has proven that he can deliver in the Premier League and the Champions League. The pair are described as being at the ‘front of the queue’ for him.
The same report also says that Pep Guardiola has given his approval for Marmoush to leave the club, just a year after joining, as he acknowledges the 26-year-old’s desire to play regular first-team football. It is understood that Marmoush wants to remain in the Premier League rather than moving abroad, so Villa and Spurs could both be sensible choices for him.
Who else could leave Man City this month?
In terms of other Man City players other than Marmoush and Bobb, who are in search of more regular game time, goalkeeper James Trafford seems unsettled too. Trafford returned to the Etihad in the summer to become the new starter, but then Man City took the chance to sign Gianluigi Donnarumma, leaving Trafford as a backup.
There was a lot of interest in the English keeper in the summer, as he was close to joining Newcastle United before City swooped in to land him. It wouldn’t be a surprise if Trafford demanded a move to someone like Newcastle, who would play him on a more regular basis.
The issue he has is that Donnarumma is still only 26, so he could be Man City’s goalkeeper for another 10 years if he wanted to. If Trafford wants to kickstart his career, then he could see a move before the end of the January window, even if it’s just a loan at the start.
