Yoane Wissa has scored three goals in 14 appearances for Newcastle United across all competitions.

Stan Collymore has suggested Newcastle United fans have already given up on £55million signing Yoane Wissa.

Admittedly, just one Premier League goal since his big-money move has hardly justified the transfer fee. But to Wissa’s credit, a knee injury curtailed his start on Tyneside and he has only started three league games.

The 29-year-old’s best performance in a black-and-white shirt came during the 3-0 win over PSV Eindhoven last week. Wissa bagged a goal and an assist as Newcastle guaranteed a Champions League play-off spot.

Was the Yoane Wissa money wasted?

However, given the size of the fee and his age, there have been questions about whether panicked when buying Wissa. It is understood that Newcastle had a £25million bid rejected earlier in the summer window.

Fast forward to deadline day and the Magpies were forking out more than double that fee to get him through the door. An hour of desperation saw Toon chiefs cave in to Brentford’s demands, with Alexander Isak heading to Liverpool.

As it stands, Wissa has scored three goals in 14 appearances across all competitions for Newcastle. But again, only seven of those saw the DR Congo international - yet to play a full 90 minutes - named on the team sheet.

Stan Collymore makes bizarre Yoane Wissa comment

Amid the striker’s struggles, former Liverpool striker Collymore has claimed “collective groans” ring around St James' Park when Wissa gets the ball. This is not something that NewcastleWorld have experienced inside the ground.

"Geordies, what's going on with Wissa?” Collymore wrote on X. “A natural ball carrier he looks as though he's going to trip over the ball when its in front of him, from a former striker's perspective (Watkins similar this season too) it looks as though he's struggling with confidence?

"As fans we maybe judge strikers differently but there seemed to be an audible groan when he got it, almost as though the crowd have given up on him a bit? Maybe make a point of giving him a cuddle because he's a talented guy..."

Stan Collymore on Eddie Howe future

Collymore went on to suggest that Jose Mourinho could be “twerking” for Eddie Howe’s job. He added: “I like to pull the Geordies' legs about Mourinho possibly twerking for the job and you only have to hear his last Benfica presser to know he’s putting himself out there again. Don’t underestimate the (Jorge) Mendes, Mourinho (and) Saudi link.

“As for Eddie, super coach, learned from his defensive Achilles heel at Bournemouth and you’re League Cup winners and Champions League, not to be underestimated. But big signings haven’t lit the place up and one or two who’ve been superb (in the) last two seasons have plateaued. I don’t think it’s panic stations but it will be interesting if you finish outside of any Europe (places) this season. I think owners would look at it then.

“Another Cup win (possible) though and he’s doing his Job! Fine margins. I’m a reluctant (thought his Bournemouth teams were incredibly naive, like Angeball lite) fan so I hope he’s given time.”
