The NBA is goin through a changing of the guard moment, as the game’s oldest stars such as LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant approach the tail end of their careers.
The old guard is handing the torch to the next generation of stars, such as Ja Morant, Victor Wembanyama, and Anthony Edwards. However, being the face of the league is about more than just what you do on the floor.
Edwards, the de facto ‘face of the NBA’ moving forward, thanks both to his relatable personality and the polish of his game, stars for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Unfortunately, the Timberwolves’ community is currently reeling due to the increasingly lethal violence that the Trump administration is allowing ICE to unleash on it.
Following the death of American hero Alex Pretti, Edwards was asked to give his thoughts on the rising tensions and senseless loss.
Edwards, however, took a rather neutral approach to the situation rather than denouncing ICE and the terror it is inflicting in Minnesota and across the nation.
“I just love Minnesota, all the love and support that they show me,” Edwards said. “So I’m behind whatever they with. I don’t really have social media, so I’m not in tune with everything. But I’ve heard about the stuff that’s going on. Me and my family definitely praying for everybody.”

Edwards is still young and will no doubt continue to mature over the course of his career. Hopefully, he’ll grow into the sort of leader off the floor that he is on it.
