Rumour Mongering: Liverpool Plotting Move for André (Again)

In the land of rumour mongers, there’s a tendency to fall back on old stories, to revive old links, to circle back to familiar names. It’s too often the case that, having been even tenuously linked one window, names will resurface for years even when there was reason to doubt the original rumours.

Such is the case with a revival late this month of chatter linking Liverpool with Brazilian defensive midfielder André, first linked with the Reds back in 2024 when he was playing for Fluminense. At the time, the more reliable reports cast doubt on rumours of Liverpool interest in the player.

And in the end, he joined Wolves for around £18M, which when taken alongside the skepticism from more reliable sources made it all rather seem as though Liverpool’s name had only ever been used to drum up interest or boost his sale price. Now, two years on, Liverpool are said to be interested again.

At least according to Brazil’s RTI Esporte, Liverpool are still interested and are weighing up a move to rescue the now 24-year-old from flailing Wolves and shore up their own depth issues at the position. Even if they probably weren’t seriously all that interested in André to begin with.

What exactly André has done in his year and a half in England to make anyone think Liverpool would pay 50% more for him now than Wolves did in summer of 2024 would seem a fair question, but that’s never the sort of thing that rumour mongers would let stand in the way of a spot of necromancy.
