**A fresh claim has now dropped regarding Liverpool’s potential next manager after Arne Slot, with former scout Mick Brown discussing the situation.**
Slot’s future is almost a daily discussion point at the moment, with the Dutchman battling to save his job after a season to forget for the Premier League champions.
While Xabi Alonso looks like the current front-runner to replace the 47-year-old, he isn’t necessarily guaranteed to be the next man in charge at Anfield.
Speaking to [_Football Insider_](https://www.footballinsider247.com/xabi-alonso-to-liverpool-update-today-after-arne-slot-sack-update/), Brown said that Alonso may still be a strong candidate to replace Slot at Liverpool, but a “list of options” will be being looked at:
_“Xabi Alonso is going to be on Liverpool’s list. He’s very highly rated and very well thought of after his time there as a player. A lot of people were impressed by what he has done as a manager, especially the success he had with Bayer Leverkusen, maybe not so much with Real Madrid._
_“Liverpool will have a big decision to make with Slot, because sacking him would mean they would have to go out and find a replacement who is good enough._
_“They’ll be looking at who might be available and making a list of options to see who could step in and have success, because that’s what Slot has done. Alonso will certainly be a contender because of the reasons I’ve just explained, I think it would make a lot of sense, but they have to be sure he’s the right man for the job.”_
**Who are the best Alonso alternatives for Liverpool?**
-------------------------------------------------------
It is understandable why so many Liverpool fans would love to see Alonso come in as Slot’s successor, with the Spaniard both a Bundesliga-winning manager and a former hero at Anfield.
But that doesn’t mean he should be the only option, with Paris Saint-Germain boss Luis Enrique someone who arguably plays a more attractive brand of football. His future in France remains up in the air.
Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has shone at Selhurst Park, winning the FA Cup last season, and he will leave the Eagles in the summer.
Alonso should still be seen as the dream target for Liverpool, assuming Slot is relieved of his duties at some point, but that should never mean he is the only choice.
