Trent Alexander Arnold could be set to reunite with Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate at Real Madrid.
Last summer, Alexander-Arnold swapped Anfield for the Bernabeu, in a deal which saw the Spanish heavyweights pay £10million to sign him just before his contract ended. However, his former defensive colleague Konate has also been linked with a potential free transfer to the La Liga side.
Similarly to the Liverpool academy graduate, Konate's deal expires this summer, meaning he would be free to move to the Spanish capital as a free agent. These reports have come to the fore despite earlier claims Real had ended their interest in his services.

However, this picture may have changed as Real reportedly have doubts about the fitness of Antonio Rudiger, David Alaba and Eder Militao. Spanish outlet Cadena SER report that Konate is on a long list of potential replacements for the aforementioned trio.
It's been said the European heavyweights have been 'accelerating' their communications with potential arrivals ahead of this summer. Konate has endured a difficult campaign, having played a pivotal role last season, when Arne Slot led the Reds to the Premier League in his debut campaign.

Alexander-Arnold also played his part in the triumph, despite leaving the club in controversial circumstances. There have also been reports from Spain claiming his future with the Spanish titans is uncertain.
After Xabi Alonso was sacked, it was reported current boss Alvaro Arbeloa had told him he is not in his long term plan. However, this claim has also been widely disputed by contrasting reports from the Daily Mail, which stated there is "no truth" to those reports.

Either way, the campaign has certainly not gone as he was hoping before he joined the club. He has made 11 appearances all season, not including this summer's Club World Cup, which saw him contribute two assists in five matches.
At the start of December, he suffered a muscular injury to his quadricep in the victory over Athletic Bilbao. He has not made an appearance in over two months at the club.
Moreover, Real manager Arbeloa has also been deploying midfielder Fede Valverde at right-back and can also now call upon club captain Dani Carvajal, who is now fit. With all this in mind, it could be an uphill battle for the England international.

Alexander-Arnold's hopes of playing for England at the World Cup are also seemingly dwindling. He has made only one appearance for the Three Lions since Thomas Tuchel took over.
The right-back missed out on England's World Cup campaign in 2022 and played a bit part role in the Euro 2024 run to the final, where he started as a central midfielder.
Tuchel also said last year Alexander-Arnold's ex-Liverpool team-mate Jarrell Quansah is ahead of him in the pecking order, with the former Reds academy graduate performing well for Bayer Leverkusen.
