“This week” – Chelsea player “expected to be sold” but we’re worried about potential fees

Chelsea’s January was always predicted to be quiet, and it has proved to be just that. But as we enter the final week, there should be some action.

The Blues are looking to sell as well as buy, but so far there’s been little to no concrete interest in the players they want to let go.

One of those players is Tyrique George, and according to the Athletic’s Deal Sheet this week, he’s still on the verge of leaving.

“Winger Tyrique George is expected to be sold and is going to make a decision on where he goes this week. Teams in England, Spain, Portugal and Germany are all after the 19-year-old.”

That implies that there are interested teams and that George just need to pick an offer. But if that was the case, we don’t see why he wouldn’t have gone long ago. He’s had all year to think about it, and hasn’t even been making our matchday squads in recent months. He could have gone on January 1st, if Chelsea were ready to accept an offer.

Our fear is not that George isn’t sure where to go, but that the offers we’re getting aren’t high enough for the club.

Perhaps the final days of the window will raise the urgency and the fees being offered. Otherwise George could be left with another very frustrating 6 months of doing nothing at Chelsea.

In other news…

It’s pretty clear that Chelsea are considering a signing in this window – but one of the linked options now appears to be off the table as Douglas Luiz closes in on a move to Aston Villa.

Chelsea’s transfer questions continue in defence too – the Blues recalled Aaron Anselmino from Dortmund, but still have apparently not decided what his future will be.
