Journo makes huge claim on £90000-a-week Tottenham defender’s future amid strong exit links

The Tottenham star has been linked with a potential move to Liverpool amid stalled contract talks.

Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven is enjoying a strong run in the starting eleven under Thomas Frank this season. The Dutchman has taken his game to another level, delivering consistent performances week in, week out for the Lilywhites despite their Premier League struggles. It is fair to suggest that the 24-year-old has been one of the standout players for the North Londoners this time around.

Van de Ven’s influence on the pitch is clear for all to see. The commanding centre-back has showcased a different side to his game this season, proving that he is much more than just a dependable defender. He has enjoyed a productive spell in the final third, consistently finding the back of the net for the Lilywhites with ease. The Dutchman is Spurs’ second-highest scorer in all competitions this season, with seven goals to his name.

His most recent goal contribution came against Burnley this weekend, when the 24-year-old found himself in the right position to slot the ball home with an instinctive finish. Van de Ven’s standing in the dressing room has also grown, thanks to his leadership qualities and his ability to lead the side in Cristian Romero’s absence.

Tottenham will not entertain selling Micky van de Ven next summer

It comes as no surprise that Micky van de Ven has been tipped to leave Tottenham in the summer. The Dutchman has reportedly been linked with a move to Liverpool once the ongoing campaign ends, as the Reds look to strengthen their defence for next season. He is seen as an ideal replacement for Virgil van Dijk, with the Merseyside-based club aiming to compete at the top end of the Premier League table once again.

Paul O’Keefe, however, has now provided an update on Micky van de Ven’s potential sale to Liverpool in the coming months. Speaking on The Whistle Blows podcast, O’Keefe said, making a rather huge claim:

“I don’t think he’s necessarily unhappy at all. I don’t believe Tottenham would entertain a sale in the remotest. So there’s absolutely no chance they’d sell him this summer. No way. I imagine the first thing they’ll try to do is negotiate a new contract extension. That situation doesn’t concern me at all. He’s got almost four years in his deal.”

O’Keefe claims that Micky van de Ven is happy at N17 and that Tottenham are not willing to sanction his sale any time soon. The Lilywhites are keen to extend his contract in the coming months and are prepared to fend off any potential suitors by only accepting a British transfer record bid for his services. With the 24-year-old still having almost four years left on his deal, there is little reason for the North Londoners to let him leave without demanding a huge transfer fee.

Spurs need to show intent in the transfer market if they are to keep hold of their key players in the coming months. The club’s dismal Premier League form is another reason why several players could be tempted to seek pastures new at N17. As a result, the onus now falls on Thomas Frank to get the club back to winning ways as they look to build on last season’s Europa League success.

Van de Ven wants to play for a side that competes for major honours on a regular basis. Therefore, one cannot blame him if he considers a move away from the North London club in the summer, especially given that Spurs have not been at their best in the Premier League for quite some time. The opportunity to play for a top club like Liverpool may prove tempting, as they would regularly challenge for the title and qualify for Europe.
