Liverpool face Qarabag at Anfield on Wednesday, with a spot in the Champions League last-16 at stake. A top-eight finish in Europe would allow the Reds to avoid an extra play-off round.
Arne Slot’s squad is stretched, with Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate unavailable, leaving Virgil van Dijk as the only senior centre-back. This defensive shortage could influence transfer plans in the final week of the window.
Liverpool have agreed in principle to sign Ifeanyi Ndukwe from Austria Vienna, and Andy Robertson is expected to remain at the club despite interest from Tottenham. Arne Slot said on Tuesday: “Robbo is part of the team (to face Qarabag in the Champions League) tomorrow evening.
“He’s been part of this club for so many years. Happy to have him. It’s good that he’s available because that’s quite important to us at the minute. He will be part of the team and nothing has happened from my side. “It’s hard to say anything definitive in this world, but I expect him to stay.”
According to The Athletic, FC Cincinnati are finalising a loan deal for Liverpool goalkeeper Fabian Mrozek, with a purchase option included. The 22-year-old Polish youth international spent last season on loan at Forest Green Rovers, racking up 11 appearances, and previously had a loan spell at Swedish side Brommapojkarna.
Mrozek has featured for Liverpool’s youth teams, making 17 Premier League 2 appearances, and was named on the bench for six first-team games under Jurgen Klopp in 2023-24.
He will join Cincinnati as their third-choice keeper behind Roman Celentano and Evan Louro. The MLS side finished second in the Eastern Conference last season, with a defence led by US international Miles Robinson and former Chelsea centre-back Matt Miazga. They were eliminated by Inter Miami in the playoffs last term.
