Liverpool have been linked with two major midfield targets ahead of the summer transfer window
Despite Liverpool’s troublesome Premier League season, they have been linked with some exciting potential transfer agreements ahead of the summer window.
Bolstering their defence is one of the Reds’ top priorities but they are also keen on solidifying their engine room. Liverpool have their eye firmly on two major targets, and they could completely change how things are run in midfield.
Liverpool ‘edging closer’ to Adam Wharton transfer
An interesting update has emerged regarding Liverpool’s pursuit of Adam Wharton from Crystal Palace. According to a report this week, the midfielder is ‘getting closer’ to the Reds and has given his availability to join the reigning champions on a five-year deal.
Liverpool have been in pursuit of Wharton for a while now. He is also heavily contested, so signing him would be a huge statement from the club to their rivals. The Reds are said to be prepared to pay as much as £80 million to get a deal over the line.
The Reds view Tchouameni as an ‘ideal candidate’ to lead the engine room ‘for years to come’.
Wharton and Tchouameni can transform Liverpool midfield

Doubts are hanging over Arne Slot’s position as Liverpool manager and whether he remains in charge of the club beyond the summer remains to be seen. However, that hasn’t stopped the rumours surrounding potential exits and arrivals between now and the start of next season.
Signing both Wharton and Tchouameni will take Liverpool’s midfield to the next level in terms of depth and quality. Providing they can keep star players Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, adding two more quality players to the engine room will make it a fortress.
After that, Liverpool need to tighten other areas, mainly their defence. Once that’s achieved, they can resume their mission of challenging for the Premier League title.
