Tottenham agree deal in principle to sign 'elite' star in late-window move, waiting for go…

Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a deal in principle to sign Andy Robertson from Liverpool, with a move not yet dead despite reports to the contrary, according to GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Ben Jacobs.

Athletic journalist David Ornstein broke the news last Friday that Spurs were in shock talks to sign the Scotland international before the January transfer window deadline next Monday, with all parties confident that a deal would happen at the time.

However, the move has been held up - perhaps only temporarily though - as the Reds have so far failed to agree a deal to bring Kostas Tsimikas back from his loan spell at AS Roma.

Tottenham Waiting for Robertson Green Light

According to Jacobs, posting on his X account on Tuesday, Tottenham have agreed terms with Liverpool over a deal worth £5m including add-ons for the 31-year-old, although neither the Reds nor the left-back have given the green light yet.

Liverpool and Robertson are only willing to get the move done should the Merseyside club bring in a replacement before February 2.

This is proving to be the sticking point of the deal, with the Reds struggling to bring Tsimikas back from the Italian capital because there is no recall clause in the loan agreement.

Roma themselves are only willing to let the Greek defender return to Anfield if they source their own replacement, having had a £7m bid rejected for Wolves star David Moller Wolfe.

Liverpool and Robertson - described as 'elite' by journalist Henry Winter - are relaxed about the situation according to Jacobs, although a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium could still happen in the next week.

Robertson Isn't the Only Potential Arrival

As well as Robertson, Tottenham are also looking at potential deals in attack should Randal Kolo Muani depart this month.

Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Juventus want to break the loan deal with PSG and have made a phone call about bringing the France international to Serie A for the remainder of the season.

Again, Spurs aren't keen to lose the 27-year-old unless they know can bring in a replacement, with an interesting name one to watch in the closing days of the window.

Tottenham have been linked with a move for £40m Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Jorgen Strand Larsen, but according to GIVEMESPORT sources, Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta is another name to look out for with Spurs.

The Frenchman wants to leave Selhurst Park and a move to Serie A was thought to be his preference. However, Nottingham Forest are pushing to sign him and ready to double his Palace wages to win the race for his signature.

If Spurs are keen on Mateta, they may need to move sooner rather than later to get him.
