Will Steve Kerr leave Warriors? Golden State insider weighs in

According to veteran Warriors correspondent Marcus Thompson II, Kerr and the Warriors are still positioned to extend their ties.

In the wake of uncertainty about their future, Steve Kerr will still return to coach the Golden State Warriors.

Golden State Warriors / Schedule

That's what longtime Warriors reporter and The Athletic's lead columnist Marcus Thompson II argued. He believes that Ker is just looking for a potentially lucrative contract in his new deal amid retirement and exit rumors with the Warriors.

"Kerr is re-upping," Thompson II said on KNBR's Murph and Marcus sports show. "Like, just take all the politics and stuff off the table. If you get $20 million, who's not doing it? ... Very simple. If you get $15 million, who's not doing it? Like, $15 million minimum on the table, probably $20 [million]. That's probably why he doesn't have it anyway, because he's like, 'I deserve this.'

"And Joe [Lacob] is like, here's what we got, and let's negotiate until we get there. But in the end, it's a significant amount of money on the table for Steve Kerr. Like, who's not taking that?"
