John Terry and Didier Drogba react as Chelsea academy product makes £18m move

The final few days of the January window is really hotting up with a whole host of Premier League clubs, including Chelsea, expected to do some business before the February 2 deadline.

Chelsea have made their first signing this week, though it comes in the form of 17-year-old Yisa Alao. The left-back, who joins from Sheffield Wednesday, is expected to become a part of Chelsea’s Under-21 side.

But Chelsea are in the market for additions, as well as a few possible sales. Raheem Sterling and Axel Disasi remain possible exits, while Aaron Anselmino’s situation needs to be sorted and plenty more.

Chelsea want a centre-back, with Fabrizio Romano reporting Jeremy Jacquet will not leave Rennes until the summer. Then, a midfielder too, given the interest in Douglas Luiz. Liverpool’s Curtis Jones is a target.

After Chelsea’s initial interest in Luiz, the Brazilian has opted to rejoin Aston Villa. It sees the midfielder leave Nottingham Forest and then go on loan again, remaining a Juventus player but rejoining Villa.

Now, he’s been joined by a former Chelsea player, and another player has rejoined Aston Villa. Tammy Abraham has rejoined the Midlands club in an £18m deal from Turkish side Besiktas this week.

Villa’s latest signing posted on Instagram on Tuesday evening, declaring “I’m back” after leaving English football in 2021 when he swapped Chelsea for Roma. He scored 26 goals in 40 Villa games previously.

Plenty responded to his post on his Instagram including John Terry, who commented: “He’s back” before tagging Abraham. Another Chelsea icon, Didier Drogba, said: “He’s back, congratulations son”.

Should Chelsea have considered a move for Tammy Abraham?

Currently, Chelsea boast just three no. 9s though Emmanuel Emegha is set to join the club in the summer from Strasbourg, having worked with Liam Rosenior extensively while in France, as Strasbourg manager.

But Liam Rosenior has had to field questions about Liam Delap’s confidence, while Marc Guiu is a talent but not seen as a long-term solution at Chelsea. The Blues and Rosenior could have done with Abraham.

Whether the striker would have been tempted to rejoin Chelsea is unlikely given the signings of Joao Pedro and Delap. He would’ve struggled to play while at Villa, he’s competing with Ollie Watkins.
