Arsenal are set to sell one of their players on a permanent basis before the end of the transfer window

Arsenal defender Oleksandr Zinchenko has taken a ‘significant’ step towards completing a permanent move to Dutch outfit Ajax, according to reports in the Netherlands.

According to Voetbal International, the Gunners and Nottingham Forest have come to an agreement on terminating the players loan at the City Ground - which has now freed him to make the move to the Eredivisie.

The Dutch club had wanted to get the transfer done sooner but are now ‘confident the deal can be completed quickly.’

Zinchenko is now set to undergo a medical later this week and he will pen a six-month deal at the Johan Cruijff Arena. The money Ajax had planned to spend on the loan fee is said to cost the same as a permanent deal.

The Ukrainian player has been with Arsenal since 2022, after joining the North London club from Premier League rivals Manchester City. He moved to Forest on loan during the summer but has not featured regularly for the club.

Ajax interim manager Fred Grim addressed the pending transfer in recent days.

“I hope that (Zinchenko’s signing) will take shape soon,” said Grim.

“At Ajax, we’re very busy strengthening our squad. It will have to be finalised in the coming week. In my opinion, there are still some possibilities then.”

Forest manager Sean Dyche addressed the defender’s future at Forest earlier this month and appeared to swing the door open for an exit this month He said: “We’ve spoken to the player, made him clear on his situation. He’s aware of that so we’ll see what happens.

“He’s played a couple of games, but hasn’t featured in others. He’s been injured. That hasn’t been helpful to him or to us. I’ve just been open with him, really. It’s like I say, I’m open with all players. But I think when you’ve done as much as he has in the game, it’s more of a conversation.

“Not demanding anything other than just telling him the truth, as I see it. And that’s how much he can figure out, how much game time he’s going to get at this time.”

While Arsenal are poised to sanction the exit of Zinchenko, any arrivals this month are unlikely with just a handful of days before the transfer window shuts.
