Liverpool are going through a difficult run of form in the Premier League after their defeat to Bournemouth at the weekend. The Reds slipped out of the Champions League positions as a result of Manchester United's victory over Arsenal, whilst Arne Slot finds himself facing increased questions regarding his future at Anfield.

Slot remained resolute during his press conference before Liverpool's Champions League fixture against Qarabag on Wednesday evening, with the Reds needing victory over the Azerbaijan club to secure round of 16 qualification - thus avoiding the two-legged playoff.

With Joe Gomez sidelined through injury and Ibrahima Konate absent due to compassionate leave, their defensive options are restricted, leaving Virgil van Dijk as the only recognised centre-back available to the Premier League champions, reports the Mirror.

As a result, the ECHO has taken a look at some of the latest Liverpool transfer speculation.

Liverpool 'trying' to sign Jacquet

Liverpool are attempting to secure Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Nevertheless, the Reds face competition from Chelsea and Bayern Munich in the pursuit of the highly-rated defender's signature. The Londoners were reported to have reached advanced discussions with the 20-year-old over personal terms, though the Ligue 1 club are reportedly determined to retain him until summer.

Romano has suggested that Liverpool and Chelsea are pursuing a January transfer whilst Bayern are considering a summer approach.

Speaking on YouTube, Romano said: "I wanted to mention the situation of Jeremy Jacquet because Chelsea remain absolutely in the conversation for this exciting French defender from Rennes. It's a big battle, all of these clubs are talking to the player's camp to understand what can they do.

"Chelsea made progress their side, in terms of numbers on the contract, Chelsea are already in advanced conversations but not yet with Rennes.

"Rennes want to keep the player in January and let him go in the summer. Let's see what happens because Liverpool are trying, Chelsea are trying and Bayern are trying for the summer. For Bayern, Jeremy Jacquet is an opportunity, as was Marc Guehi because they wanted Kim Min-Jae, who can leave the club in the summer transfer window.

"Chelsea and Liverpool would love to do the business now but Rennes insist that the player is available in the summer, not in January. Let's see what will happen for one of the most exciting defenders around Europe."

Slot confirms Robertson plan

Reds boss Slot anticipates Andy Robertson will stay at Liverpool following the collapse of discussions regarding a January switch to Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs had been monitoring a potential deal for the Scotland captain this month, bringing forward their interest from the summer window, as they seek to revitalise their campaign in the second half of the season.

Robertson's contract expires in the summer and he has confirmed discussions regarding a potential extension, though his playing time has been restricted following the summer signing of Milos Kerkez.

Speaking on Tuesday, Slot said: "Robbo is part of the team tomorrow evening and he has been apart of this squad for many years.

"Happy to have him, it's good that he's available because that's quite important for us at the moment, to have players available. Nothing happened my side. It's hard to say anything definite with the world we live in [whether he stays this month] but I expect him to say, yes."

Liverpool goalkeeper linked with loan

Regarding potential departures, according to The Athletic, Fabian Mrozek is nearing a switch to Major League Soccer franchise FC Cincinnati.

The shot-stopper is reportedly close to joining the MLS side on a temporary basis, with a commitment to make the transfer permanent. Mrozek, who had a loan spell at Forest Green Rovers in the National League last term, is expected to serve as the club's third-choice goalkeeper.

Any permanent transfer would bring to a close the 22-year-old's six-year spell at the club following his move from Polish side FC Wroclaw.

During that period, he has featured 17 times for the under-21s in Premier League 2. FC Cincinnati secured second place in the Eastern Conference and overall in the MLS last season before their elimination in the MLS Cup semi-finals by Lionel Messi's Inter Miami.
