Chelsea set to keep hold of£11m player despite Liam Rosenior not picking him for Napoli clash

New Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior looks set to have to deal with another quiet January transfer window at Stamford Bridge, barring any dramatic late changes.

The Blues have not looked to do big business in the winter for the last couple of seasons, and even though Rosenior sought transfer assurances the same looks as if it is going to happen this year.

This is despite Jeremy Jacquet choosing Chelsea for his next move, although Rennes look as if they are going to keep hold of him until the summer at least.

The story therefore turns to who might depart the club, with a number of players who have not made an impact this season linked with moves away.

Gabriel Slonina set to stay at Chelsea

One of those has been goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina. The fact the Blues recalled Teddy Sharman-Lowe from his loan move at Bolton hinted he could be on the move this month.

However, journalist Eduardo Burgos has stated that barring a remarkable last-minute offer, the American will be remaining at Stamford Bridge this month.

He said: “Gabriel Slonina will stay at Chelsea unless there is an irresistible last-minute offer. Things could change in the summer. As of today, he stays.”

Chelsea have taken four goalkeepers with them in the squad to face Napoli on Wednesday, however Slonina is not one of those.

Slonina was one of the first Todd Boehly signings

The Blues spent big money to sign the young goalkeeper back in 2022. They paid £11m (Mail Online) for the former Chicago Fire man, the fifth addition since the new ownership took over.

Since then, he has not made a first team appearance for the Blues. He has been on the bench four times in all competitions this season.

Robert Sanchez has nailed down the number one spot as his own with impressive performances over the last 12 months, putting Chelsea off signing a new goalkeeper for the first team squad.

This has seemingly put an end to their interest in Mike Maignan, who is set to sign a new contract with AC Milan.
