Manchester United and Manchester City are both eyeing a move for a Premier League star amid interest from Newcastle United and Liverpool

The central midfielder is expected to be one of the most in-demand players in the summer transfer window. A move before the February 2 deadline is highly unlikely with Palace already selling Marc Guehi to Man City this month while striker Jean-Philippe Mateta could also leave amid interest from Nottingham Forest.

Therefore the potential for Palace to sanction a triple exit while they remain in several competitions is unlikely.

Giving an update on Wharton, he wrote: “I think plenty of clubs are anticipating Wharton as a viable target for this summer. Manchester United, Manchester City and Bayern Munich have all made calls. Wharton was also a name put forward by some senior members of Spurs' recruitment team.”

Wharton has only been at Palace for two years after joining in the January window of 2024. He is under contract at Selhurst Park until 2029, putting the Eagles in a strong negotiating position.

The midfielder, who turns 22 next month, is widely regarded as one of the best young players in England.

Speaking about Wharton after he had been named in the 26-man England squad for Euro 2024, Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice said of him: “He’s been outstanding.

“In training, he impressed a lot of the players. He’s so composed and calm on the ball. He played his first half of the season in the Championship, he’s [come into the England team] from Crystal Palace now.

“He's got a beautiful left foot, really crisp passing. And all round, just a really down-to-earth boy who wants to learn. He's still obviously only 20 years old, but to be on the plane to go to his first European Championships, what a moment for him and his family and I know he's one who won't take it for granted.

“You know, he'll be ready when called upon. I think you see the other night how composed he is and he's ready for the big stage. I think he's one of them that doesn't get fazed by big things.”
