LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors
For years, Golden State Warriors fans have daydreamed about a potential Stephen Curry and LeBron James team-up.
And, according to a recent report from NBA Insider Jake Fischer, the Warriors could show interest in James this summer, assuming he opts to leave the Los Angeles Lakers and continue his NBA career.
When speaking with Heavy via Kiwislots NZ, former Warriors guard Nate Robinson urged LeBron to swerve a move to the Bay Area.
“LeBron, you’re an alpha male,” Robinson said. “There’s no reason to team up again with someone else to play with. There’s no reason to, bro, you had a great career. You gotta know when to when to bow out and go out with your chin high. Knowing that you changed the game big time. You’re one of the greatest of all time, you’re the leading scorer. And you’re gonna be talked about and known forever, like Michael Jackson, like Jesus, Michael Jordon, Mike Tyson, those kind of people of the world. Like he’s gonna be one of those guys that’s gonna be talked about. We don’t, we don’t wanna see you go team up with Curry. Well, the real basketball players and fans, we don’t.”
Even if LeBron did opt to join the Warriors next season, he would be entering his age-42 season. There’s no guarantee his presence would elevate the franchise into championship contention.
Adding LeBron James To Warriors Would Be Fun
Despite Robinson’s comments, the majority of Warriors fans would likely love to see a LeBron, Curry, Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler lineup. Each of those veterans is still chasing greatness, and together, when paired with some younger talents, could produce a highly memorable season.
Does that mean the Warriors could go on to win the 2027 NBA championship? It’s far from a guarantee. But, at this stage in their respective careers, it would likely be a highlight year to look back on.
Still, there’s no guarantee that LeBron will still be in the NBA next season. He’s kept his plans for retirement a secret. In recent years, he’s consistently reiterated that he will make a decision during the summer.
Could LeBron James Be Traded This Season?
When speaking with Sean Deveney of Heavy on Sports, an NBA executive, speaking under the condition of anonymity, noted that there’s only a handful of teams the Lakers could potentially work with as a trade partner for the veteran superstar.
“It would be the perfect time to trade him in a normal situation, but it’s the Lakers and LeBron so it is not normal,” one NBA executive said. “There are only two or three teams the Lakers would even talk to about trading LeBron–Cleveland, maybe Golden State–so no one will really know it until it happens. You can’t rule it out.”
In truth, if LeBron does continue to play, a return to Cleveland makes the most sense. That way, he can wrap up his career in front of his hometown crowd. It would be a fitting end to an incredible journey. And one that wouldn’t add another asterisk when discussing LeBron’s team selection during free agency.
