David Ornstein shares the 'feeling' he gets when he speaks to people around Liverpool about Mo Salah now

Mohamed Salah sparked questions about his Liverpool future with that post-Leeds United interview last month.

Salah was dropped by Arne Slot for the following fixture, staying at home as the Reds travelled to Italy to face Inter Milan.

The 33-year-old returned to the squad and came off the bench in the clash with Brighton and Hove Albion later that week before then jetting off to the AFCON.

The Saudi Pro League remain interested in the Liverpool winger and are thought to have made him one of their main targets for the next window.

This, of course, comes with the Egyptian still under contract at Anfield until the end of June 2027. But whether he sees out that deal remains up in the air.

Liverpool assessing Mohamed Salah situation

Speaking on The Athletic FC podcast, David Ornstein was asked about the future of Salah at Liverpool and shared the feeling he’s getting after talking to people around the club.

He said: “That said, it was only a two-year renewal and you get the feeling when you speak to people around the club that, let’s see how he reintegrates post-AFCON. It hasn’t started amazingly on the pitch, but I think that was more aimed at the sort of relationship after what happened in the post-Leeds comments.

“If it will be harmonious, then obviously they’ll get through to the end of the season and make a decision.

“Do they go into the final year and continue together? If it’s not harmonious or if the football is not going in the way that both parties want it to, do they have a conversation in the summer and say, now we’ll look to part ways? So I think that is an area of focus for Liverpool going forward.”

Mohamed Salah may struggle to leave Liverpool

As already mentioned, there is clear interest from the Saudi League when it comes to the forward.

However, it has been reported this month that Salah has given no indication he wants to stop playing at the highest level.

That may cause a problem should he decide to try to leave Liverpool at some point in 2026.

He is earning £400,000-a-week at Anfield and some European clubs, like FC Barcelona, can’t afford Salah.

Liverpool’s star man will be 34 in June as well, which could also be another factor that top teams take into consideration when weighing up a possible transfer.
