Chelsea are yet to make their first signing of the January transfer window, and we are now only five days away from the close.
Liam Rosenior identified a couple of weeks ago that he wanted a centre-back after the loss to Arsenal in the Carabao Cup.
However, a lot of time has passed and very little progress has been made.
Rennes and Chelsea have been locked in talks over Jeremy Jacquet, but that now looks like a deal for the summer months after a failure to agree on price.
One positive is the fact that Chelsea has the preference of the player, which bodes well.
But it’s frustrating to see rivals complete good bits of business when Chelsea could now end up signing nobody before the deadline.

New Bournemouth signing Rayan is being tipped to follow Estevao Willian’s rise
Chelsea had an interest in Rayan during Enzo Maresca’s time at the club last summer, but they didn’t follow up with any interest.
And what makes matters worse is the fact that Chelsea also had follow-up interest in Rayan towards the end of 2025.
However, he has since signed for Bournemouth, and Ben Jacobs (via TalkSPORT) has shared what people are saying about the Brazilian attacker.
“They’ve got ahead of the market and a top talent will come to the Premier League. An interesting one, you know the same way Chelsea signed Estevao. A lot of people think that he has the potential to be very big, very quickly. This is a very top signing.”
QUESTION: Who is the best dribbler you have EVER seen at Chelsea?🤔

Chelsea one of the clubs waiting until the summer
This could be a case of not biting early enough on a transfer, which is unlikely for Chelsea.
Ben Jacobs stated that there were other clubs interested in the winger, who likely would have been the Blues, but they were waiting for the summer to move.
Chelsea’s usual policy is to sign players ahead of transfer windows, as we saw previously with Estevao Willian and Kendry Paez due to their age.
Plus, Geovany Quenda is heading to Stamford Bridge this summer.
