The Minnesota Timberwolves could use a notable backcourt partner for Anthony Edwards.
Some trade rumors this year have suggested the Timberwolves kept tabs on the Chicago Bulls guard, Coby White. Yahoo Sports’ Kevin O’Connor believes there could be a route to land White before the 2026 trade deadline.
“I think like a Conley, plus Dillingham type of package for Coby White, that would be perfect,” O’Connor said this week.
Are the Bulls Ready to Move On?
The Bulls aren’t planning to host a firesale this season. While they continue to find themselves deep in the Eastern Conference standings, they are banking on potentially putting up a strong enough fight in the NBA Play-In Tournament to crack a spot in the playoffs.
Therefore, moving on from White doesn’t seem like a priority, although it shouldn’t be off the table. With White set to enter free agency this summer, the Bulls would be wise to at least check out his market. In that case, the Timberwolves could be the right suitors if the price is right.
“He could shoot off the catch, he can cut to the rim, he can run a little bit of pick and roll, he can playmake or score. I mean, I think he’s the perfect complement to [Edwards],” O’Connor claimed.
“I think maybe a little bit more playmaking would be nice, but I don’t think he can't do that. He’s toggled between score and playmaker in recent years. In his career, he’s really emerged as a 20-point per game guy for the Bulls, so I think it’s the best they can do.”
This year, White has started 22 out of 25 games for the Bulls. He is shooting 45 percent from the field, and knocking down 37 percent of his threes, while making 37 percent of his shots. The veteran is producing 19.0 points per game, while coming down with 3.5 rebounds and dishing out 4.7 assists.
White has been one of the Bulls’ most consistent players since becoming a full-time starter in 2023-2024. Being on the struggling Bulls, White has just five playoff games to show for throughout his career. If the Timberwolves can find a way to convince the Bulls to part ways with White, the young standout guard could be a valuable piece to a playoff-contending Wolves team.
