Liverpool are preparing to finalise a series of loan deals for their academy prospects as the January transfer window enters its final week. With manager Arne Slot not expecting any major first-team signings before the February 2nd deadline, attention has instead turned to securing appropriate pathways for Liverpool’s emerging talents.

Wales international Lewis Koumas is undergoing a medical at Hull City today as the Championship promotion-chasers move to complete a loan deal for the remainder of the 2025-26 season. The 20-year-old forward returned to Anfield last week after Liverpool terminated his disappointing loan spell at Birmingham City, where he managed just one goal in 25 appearances and started only seven Championship matches.

Liverpool are also navigating the situation around 19-year-old striker Keyrol Figueroa, who has attracted significant interest from Portuguese giants FC Porto following his prolific form for the Under-21s this season. The young forward has scored an exceptional 11 goals in just 12 Premier League 2 appearances, averaging a goal every 54.5 minutes.

However, conflicting reports have emerged regarding the exact nature of discussions with the Portuguese giants.

Meanwhile, The Athletic has reported that Calum Scanlon will likely leave on loan before the winter window closes with Cardiff City closing in on a deal:

“League One leaders Cardiff City are also leading the chase for left-back Calum Scanlon, who is now back to full fitness after a lengthy period on the sidelines through injury.”

“The 20-year-old sustained a season-ending setback last season during a loan spell at Millwall and has been recovering ever since.”

“He’s played a number of Under-21s games to build up his fitness and Liverpool are keen for him to play regularly until the end of the season. A number of other clubs have also registered an interest in Scanlon and a decision is expected to be made swiftly.”

The loan discussions come at a particularly difficult time for fellow Liverpool defender Calum Scanlon, whose season-long spell at Millwall earlier in the campaign was devastated by injury setbacks. The 20-year-old left-back made his Liverpool debut under Jurgen Klopp in a 5-1 Europa League victory over Toulouse at Anfield in 2023.
