Liverpool have promoted defender Amara Nallo from List B of their Champions League squad ahead of the visit of Qarabag on Wednesday night. Nallo, 19, has been added to Arne Slot's senior group who will be without six defenders for the Anfield clash.
With Joe Gomez absent having taken a knock from Alisson Becker during the weekend defeat at Bournemouth, and Ibrahima Konate missing his third match in a row on compassionate leave following the death of his father, either Ryan Gravenberch or Wataru Endo are expected to partner Virgil van Dijk in defence.
One of the duo, who usually play in midfield, will step into the breach as the Reds are also without summer signing Giovanni Leoni, who remains sidelined with the ACL injury he suffered on his debut back in September.
Wellity Lucky, who like Nallo was promoted from List B - which is only open to players born on or after January 1, 2004 who have been at the club for at least two years since they turned 15 - to feature on the bench in the 1-0 win at Inter Milan in December, is also sidelined having recently suffered a hamstring injury. The 20-year-old centre-back is expected to miss the next two months.
In addition, right-backs Conor Bradley and Calvin Ramsay are also not in the squad for the visit of the Azeris, with Bradley sidelined after suffering a serious knee injury at Arsenal earlier this month and Ramsay having not been selected in the Champions League squad.
Should Nallo be called upon on Wednesday then he and Liverpool will hope that he fares better than he has done on both of his tastes of senior football so far.
The Londoner, who joined the Reds from West Ham in 2023, was sent off just four minutes into his Reds debut when he replaced Jayden Danns in the 83rd minute of a 3-2 defeat to PSV Eindhoven in the final league phase game of last season's Champions League.
Nallo would then last just 12 minutes of his second senior appearance for the Reds as he was sent off again after coming on for Alexis Mac Allister in the 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup in October.
In doing so he became the only player in Liverpool history to be sent off in consecutive appearances, and he hasn't featured for the first-team since.
