Chelsea are currently embroiled in a three-way transfer battle with Liverpool and Bayern Munich for a young defender.
The Blues are yet to make any significant moves in the January transfer window, and with just five days left before the deadline, they will be working hard to make sure they get what they want before the window slams shut.
Chelsea’s biggest weakness as things stand seems to be at the centre-back position, as Trevoh Chalobah has been the most consistent defensive option at Stamford Bridge so far this season.
The Blues did recall Alex Anselmino from his loan at Borussia Dortmund, as Liam Rosenior wants to add some more depth at the position.
Chelsea battling Liverpool and Bayern for Jacquet

Rennes centre-back Jeremy Jacquet has been a target for Chelsea over the past few weeks, as Rosenior looks to improve his options at the back. Jacquet has been dubbed as the next William Saliba in the past, and the 20-year-old is really proving himself this season.
According to the Guardian, Chelsea remain locked into their approach for the Frenchman, but find themselves in a battle against Bayern Munich and Liverpool. Although, it is understood that Chelsea are the frontrunners to sign Jacquet.
The defender is expected to cost around £56m if Chelsea were to sign him now, but there is also the understanding that Rennes will be more willing to sanction his sale in the summer transfer window.
Whether Chelsea make a move now, or wait for the summer, Jacquet does feel like a player who could make a huge impact at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues also expect to sign a midfielder
Centre-back isn’t the only position of concern for Chelsea at the moment. It has also been reported that they want a central midfielder to add to Rosenior’s options in the middle of the park.
They did want to sign Douglas Luiz, but it is understood that he is going to return to his former club Aston Villa instead. Other names linked include Ruben Neves, N’Golo Kante, and Christ Inao Oulai.
