The San Antonio Spurs are one of the best teams in the NBA. They currently sit second in the Western Conference standings, only behind the Oklahoma City Thunder. They are clearly contenders to win a championship this season.
San Antonio has the third-best defense in the league. With the team playing this well, tough decisions have been made when it comes to the rotation. Jeremy Sochan has been one of the players who has suffered while the rest of the team has been elevated.
A former top-ten pick, Sochan has fallen out of the rotation. He has played just five times in the last ten games. He is clearly frustrated with his lack of minutes. Now, it looks like the team has given him permission to look for a new home ahead of the trade deadline.

Spurs Forward Jeremy Sochan Given Permission to Seek a Trade
According to NBA Insider Marc Stein, the Spurs have given Sochan permission to seek a trade partner ahead of the trade deadline. It’s unclear what the market for Sochan would be, but his time in San Antonio looks like it will be coming to an end.
Sochan was the ninth pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. He was brought in to be the team’s version of Draymond Green, but it hasn’t worked out that way. He was even made to be the team’s starting point guard, and that experiment did not go very well.
With the Spurs finally healthy, they don’t have much use for Sochan on the floor. His lack of outside shooting doesn’t help the Spurs with Victor Wembanyama on the floor. He never developed his playmaking with the team to the point that he was considered a great passer, either.
Still, Sochan is a good NBA player who deserves to get minutes. He would be a solid player off the bench for another team that has room for him in their rotation. The Spurs likely wouldn’t get much in return for him in a trade, though.

The Spurs Could Make Multiple Trades at the Deadline
Trading Sochan might not be the only move that the Spurs end up making. They have several trade chips that they can cash in if they want to make a big move at the deadline. They have been floated as a potential team for Giannis Antetokounmpo, but that seems unlikely.
The Spurs have the eighth-best offense in the NBA, as well. They are one of just three teams in the NBA that have a top-ten offense and defense. With those stats, the Spurs might not make a move. They could just stand pat at the trade deadline and go with what they already have.
San Antonio is certainly one of the teams to watch when the deadline rolls around on February 5. Sochan is hoping that he can find a new home by then.
