Fabrizio Romano says he’s now hearing something different about Raheem Sterling’s future at Chelsea

The final days of Chelsea’s January transfer window looks set to be based around moving on some players who are not in the club’s first team plans.

A lot of the attention will be around the future of Raheem Sterling, and whether he will get his move that allows him to return to first team football somewhere.

While fellow outcast Axel Disasi has returned to training recently, there has been no sighting of Sterling, despite frequent questions coming the way of Liam Rosenior regarding his future.

With only a few days left of the transfer window, the likelihood that the winger’s time off the pitch is going to extend, with his options running out for a move.

Raheem Sterling not likely to stay at Chelsea this month

However, Fabrizio Romano has stated that he is hearing differently to what the mainstream English media is reporting, and he believes Sterling will not be at Chelsea for the rest of the season.

He said: “Even though in England they said this morning that Raheem Sterling could stay at Chelsea and remain out of the squad until the end of the season, what I’m hearing about Sterling is actually the opposite.

“What I’m hearing is that Sterling won’t be a Chelsea player for the second half of the season, and that Sterling is still thinking about a different experience – leaving Chelsea in the next few days.

“So we’ll see whether Napoli want to go back in for him, or whether they’ll decide to go for a different opportunity, maybe a less expensive one, with a less high-profile name but with more long-term potential. But Sterling is on the market.”

Potential Chelsea January signings

Even though the market is closing on Monday, there are still reports that Chelsea could do some late business for themselves this month.

Jeremy Jacquet has been strongly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, however Rennes are playing hardball and not willing to part ways easily this month.

This is despite Jacquet already reportedly choosing Chelsea out of the list of elite clubs who are currently interested in his services.

There could also be movement in the midfield, however their efforts to bring in Douglas Luiz have come to an end after he joined Aston Villa instead.
