Warriors plan for Giannis trade revealed after latest update

Warriors' big plan at the deadline could be to acquire Andrew Wiggins, then flip Jimmy Butler for Anthony Davis or Giannis Antetokounmpo.

The Golden State Warriors could reportedly be eyeing a major move targeting Giannis Antetokounmpo following the latest update on his trade status with the Milwaukee Bucks.

According to NBA insider Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, the Warriors' plan at the trade deadline could involve acquiring Andrew Wiggins and then flipping Jimmy Butler for either Anthony Davis or Giannis Antetokounmpo.

"When discussing this Wiggins–Kuminga swap scenario with rival front offices, many believe such a move could be a precursor for the Warriors to make an even bigger move before the Feb. 5 deadline," Siegel reports.

"Although Dunleavy and the Warriors have pushed back at the notion of trading Butler following his injury, league personnel believe trading for Wiggins could be part of a larger scheme for Golden State to move Butler for either Anthony Davis or Giannis Antetokounmpo," he added.

Additionally, Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated noted that the Warriors have made it clear that if Milwaukee gets serious about trading Giannis, they are ready to make an offer, further signaling Golden State's desire to acquire him.

Giannis and the Bucks have endured a roller-coaster 2025-26 season. With an 18-26 record and sitting in 11th place in the Eastern Conference, their nine consecutive playoff appearances are in serious jeopardy.

To make matters worse, the Bucks could struggle even more after Antetokounmpo announced he will be out four to six weeks due to a calf injury.

Giannis has spent his entire 13-year career with the Bucks and is currently averaging 28.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per game this season.
