£300K-per-week star leaves Chelsea as free agent

**Winger Raheem Sterling has left Chelsea by mutual consent, ending a three-and-a-half year stay with the club.**

The Blues confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that the Englishman had departed Stamford Bridge after an agreement had been reached to terminate his contract.

Sterling, 31, joined Chelsea from Premier League rivals Manchester City back in 2022, as one of a number of marquee signings made by the club’s then-new ownership in their first year in charge of the club.

The winger had enjoyed remarkable success during his spell with the Citizens, registering a combined 217 goals and assists for the club as well as winning 11 trophies including four Premier League titles and the FA Cup.

Since moving to London, however, the 82-time England international’s career has stuttered somewhat.

In total Sterling has featured just 81 times for the Blues across all competitions, and his last appearance for the club came in a Premier League victory over Bournemouth back in May 2024.

The attacker then spent the 2024/25 campaign on loan at fierce London rivals Arsenal, but failed to score a single league goal during his spell at The Emirates.

Since returning to Stamford Bridge last summer, Sterling has effectively been frozen out of the first team squad and hasn’t been included in a single matchday squad so far this term.

The winger was linked with a move away from Chelsea last summer, but a deal was never agreed and he ultimately stayed put at Stamford Bridge, albeit training away from the first team in a so-called ‘bomb squad’ that also included defender Axel Disasi.

He was believed to be one of the Blues’ highest earners during his time with the club, with his contract said to earn him in excess of £300,000-per-week.

Sterling departs Chelsea having scored 19 goals and provided 15 assists for the club.
